 New Cars

Definition:
A vehicle that has never been previously titled or registered to a retail owner and typically carries the full original manufacturer’s warranty.

Key Characteristics:

• 0–minimal miles (delivery miles only)

• Full factory warranty

• Latest model year features

• Eligible for manufacturer incentives (if available)

 Off Lease Cars 

Pre-Own Cars

Any vehicle that has had one or more previous owners and has been previously titled.

Key Characteristics:

• Varies in age and mileage

• May or may not have warranty remaining

• Includes trade-ins, lease returns, and auction vehicles

DAG Clarification:
“Pre-Owned” is a broad category that includes both Certified and non-Certified used vehicles.

Used Cars

A previously owned vehicle sold in its current condition, typically outside of manufacturer warranty coverage unless extended coverage is purchased.

Key Characteristics:

• Previously titled

• Sold “As-Is” unless otherwise stated

• Value varies based on condition, mileage, and history

Important Buyer Note:
Independent inspections are recommended on all used vehicles.

Program Cars

Low-mileage vehicles previously used by manufacturers, dealerships, or rental agencies for demonstration or short-term use.

Common Types:

• Dealer demo vehicles

• Manufacturer executive vehicles

• Rental fleet vehicles

Advantages:

• Lower miles

• Often newer model year

• Priced below comparable new vehicles

Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Cars

A pre-owned vehicle that has passed a manufacturer-approved multi-point inspection and includes an extended factory-backed limited warranty.

Key Characteristics:

• Manufacturer inspection (typically 100+ points)

• Extended limited warranty coverage

• Often includes roadside assistance

• Higher price than standard used due to certification

Important Note:
Certification must be performed and backed by the vehicle’s original manufacturer — not just labeled “certified” by a dealer.

For Sale By Owner (FSBO)

A vehicle being sold directly by the current owner without involvement of a dealership.

Key Characteristics:

• Private party transaction

• No dealership warranty

• Buyer responsible for due diligence

Buyer Advisory:
Always verify title status, lien release, and vehicle condition before completing a private sale.
